School Newsletter Term 4 Issue 4 - 22nd November, 2024
Message from the Principal
Welcome To Our New Principal - Mrs Jessica Chesterfield
Yarranlea Limited and the staff at Yarranlea Primary and Outside School Hours Care welcome Mrs Jessica Chesterfield as our new Principal in 2025. An email was distributed on Wednesday November 20th giving the relevant information about Mrs Chesterfield.
Canberra Trip
I am sure that the students will have fond memories of our journey in Canberra last week. It was certainly action packed and we covered a lot of Canberra in our four days together. The trip itself took twelve months to organise and we undertake this journey every three years. All up it was very successful, our only hiccup was the Friday flight on the way back which was constantly delayed.
School Audit
Our annual school audit will occur next Tuesday November 26th. This audit occurs every five years in which two outside auditors review the entire school procedures, processes and curriculum. The final report is submitted to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NASSB) which is an independent monitor and evaluates the progress of independent schools in Queensland. While the audit itself is short in duration it is comprehensive in nature and has twelve months to plan and enact. As with most audits, recommendations are developed which are feedback into our strategic plans.
Security Extension to M17
Our move into M17 is nearly complete we have now installed our security system to the block itself.
Forthcoming events
We are now moving into the pointy end of term four. Staff are preparing report cards which anticipate will be distributed in the last week of the term. Just a reminder that this term is an eleven-week term. We have two final major events to occur:
Thursday, November 28th - Year 6 Dinner to be held at the school
Thursday, December 12th - Year 6 graduation and end of year celebration – on school oval - we have booked the Griffith Sports Hall a backup but will need to vacate by 3.30 - 4.00 due to sports being booked in the afternoon.
Report Cards will be distributed by week 11. Parents may request a meeting with Class Teacher about the progress of their child.
Some Important Dates for 2025
The following are some future dates to be aware of for 2025.
Working Bee - Jan 21st to be advised
School Begins - Tuesday, Jan 28th
Naplan begins - Thursday, March 13th
Indigiscapes - Tuesday, March 18th
Please note that if you are taking a holiday with your school age child during the school term it is customary to provide advanced noticed. The advanced notice does allow us to plan ahead in relation to what your child may need to cover in the curriculum for the remainder of the term.
Storm Season
We are well and truly into the stormy season. As per our policy we will issue a storm warning as provided by BOM. There is no need to panic as your child is safe and will not be released until we sight a parent or guardian. If you are caught in traffic, please phone ahead and let us know.
Parking Transitions
For students moving into the Dingoes class for 2025 we would prefer if they are dropped off at the top drop off parking area. This does not apply if they have a younger sibling in Puggles classroom.
REFLECTION QUOTE
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. … Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”

Happy Week 8 Puggle Families!
HASS
In HASS this week the Prep students have been sharing memories by making photo albums. They shared memories from when they babies, at Kindy and at school.
Writing
In writing this week the Puggles have been creating their own stories! They have been working on using the narrative structure to introduce their characters and setting.
Prep Meet and Greets
Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, we have had to cancel the Prep meet and greet at Oxley Creek Common this Saturday the 23rd of November.
Maths
This week the Year One students have been working on their skip counting and place value. They have been comparing numbers from 0-140 and ordering them on a number line. The Prep students have started their money unit. We learned all about the Austrlian coins and made a sushi shop.
Japanese
This week in Japanese the Puggles have been learning all about our lovely Brisbane weather. They learned the word for rainy, which is also the word for candy!

Year 3 HASS Research Task:
Our Year 3 students are diving into an exciting project! They’re creating thoughtful interview questions to learn all about the lives of a chosen relative. After conducting their interviews, they’ll organize their findings into a chronological PowerPoint presentation—all done during class time.
To support this task, students will keep their yellow research books handy, traveling between home and school. If you’d like to share any photos that might enhance their PowerPoints, feel free to email them to me, and I’ll ensure they’re uploaded to your child’s school device.
We’re also adding an extra challenge! Students are encouraged to include a graph or table based on one of the responses they collect during their interviews.
This exciting journey of discovery has already begun, and we can’t wait to see the final presentations! The completed project is due on Monday, December 2nd.
Amid the whirlwind of school camp, assessments, and report card writing, it’s been a busy time! But don’t worry—we’ve captured some fantastic moments over the past fortnight. Check out these cheerful and fun-filled snapshots from our school adventures! 😊
