School Newsletter Issue 22 End Term 4 December 8
Message from the Principal
2023
Many thanks to the community and staff for last Friday at the Year 6 graduation. Yes it did rain but we were inside! Also thanks to those who also came to the working bee last Sunday.
In all we have eight grade 6 students leaving us and ten Preps for the beginning of 2024. Our small team has and is currently planning a variety of activities and opportunities for our students.
Our overall theme next year is entitled ' Life".
As part of 2024 our small school will turn ten years old. A small team met on Tuesday night to map out the calendar for our first six months in 2024. Our possible celebration date to pencil in is Saturday, July 6th at a venue to be decided for our tenth year celebrations.
As we move into the holiday season OSHC will be operating and Maree has distributed the holiday program.
Into the New Year we will update the calendar for 2024 on the school zine app.
On a final note we trust everyone has a safe break and we look forward to seeing you all in 2024.
To our current group of Year 6 students we wish you well in the future and know you will make us proud of your achievements.

Greetings Kookaburra Families,
And with that the 2023 School Year is OVER!
Thank you, classroom parents, for your unwavering support and dedication throughout the past year; your partnership has truly enriched our classroom learning environment and made a positive impact on the success of your Kookaburra students.
As much as I am saddened to see our Year 3's progress up to the upper classroom, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming 2024 school year. I am excited for this next chapter, full of educational adventures that await for your children. I look forward to fostering their journey of growth, discovery, and success!
DID SOMEONE SAY A HEATWAVE?! WHERE??
A special thank you to Hayley for coming in and creating some Snowflake art with us last week! The classroom was covered in snowflakes of various sizes.
Toy Project
A BIG THANK YOU to all families and Kookaburra students on their home toy project creations! The students all had such great ideas, replication and delivery of their chosen toys and they all utilised the push and pull concept that was required. The students had a great time showing and sharing their ideas and toys, as well as answering questions from their peers. Please see below some photos!

It is officially the end of the school year for 2023 and what a fantastic year it has been. I have absolutely loved getting to know all the beautiful students, staff and families within the Yarranlea community. Thank you all so much for your support over the past year and for welcoming me into this lovely little school.
The end of the the year is of course bittersweet, as we farewell our Year 6 students for the last time. We are all very proud of them for what they have achieved and can't wait to hear how they are going in high school! So please keep in touch and reach out if there is anything we can ever do to help.

KARATE
Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers,
It’s hard to believe but we’re now only a few weeks away from the festive season, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our students, instructors, and their families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year!
2023 has been extremely positive for our club with hundreds of our top students moving up to and beyond their black belt levels across all parts of the country. On a related and more significant note, 2023 has also been a record year for coloured belt gradings with more student’s moving up through their lower and mid-level ranks than ever before. These future black belts must also be commended for the discipline and commitment they’ve applied over the past 12 months to earn their new rankings.
In acknowledging these outstanding progress benchmarks, it is worth noting that many of these students are children, and their successful passage up through the belt levels is due in large part to the dedication of their parents or caregivers who keep them coming to class on a regular basis. Many thanks to you also!
Aside from the above, we were also able to conduct the 2023 GKR Karate Australian Titles – our first national event since the pre-Covid days in 2019. It was inspiring for me and many of our other senior instructors to finally see so many GKR students from around the country altogether in the one venue again. Thanks to all involved for putting on such a fantastic event.
THANK YOU!
In addition to the many students who have sustained a regular karate regime throughout 2023, I’d also like to express my sincere appreciation to all of our branch and senior instructors for the amazing job they do each week. We couldn’t provide the extensive choice of locations and training days across the country without these people, and their commitment to teaching quality classes in 2023 has been outstanding as usual.
Last Classes for 2023 / Re-Start in January 2024
Our last public classes for 2023 will be on Friday 22nd December, with classes starting back as normal in 2024 from Monday 8th January. It’s likely there’ll be some special events in your region just before we break up, and some areas may still run a reduced class timetable between Christmas and New Year. Your Branch Instructor will have information where/if this applies in your area.
Training Fees
Please note also that your direct debit training fee rates are based on an annual fee divided by 52 equal weekly payments (or 26 or 12 depending on your payment frequency). As the Christmas break period forms part of this 52 week calculation, please note that your normal payments will continue over this period. As usual, we encourage students to attend as many extra classes as they can during the January school holiday period before school goes back.
On behalf of the entire senior instructor group, I’d again like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and we’ll see you again in the New Year!
Best wishes,
Kancho Robert Sullivan
