Message from the Principal
Well Done Yarranlea!
Our Last fortnight has been momentous in the demonstration of our musical talents both in Scary Dance and the Musical within The Arts Curriculum.
Well done to our students who performed the Scary Dance on Friday, October 27th even though it was rain sodden, with some flexibility, we were able to accomplish a smooth change to destination with a very successful night. Thanks to the P and F forsupplying food and assistance.
Our musical this year was “Frozen” which was well attended. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents. While we wish we could invite more, unfortunately we have to limit to the size of the theatre. Once more I would to thank the P and F and their contribution to the night.
Our students certainly shone through on the night.
Year 6 Dinner
This week we attended the Year 6 dinner, with the year 6 students parents. Through this event we hope to share from the parents and staff, an important message with the students as a group which is insights into how they have found in their teenage years and onwards aspects of their lifetime views. This is a new intiative and came from the EPIC project which invovled Ms D and Troy Radloff.
Our Playgroup continues to grow through the leadership of Ms.Z. Our school environment is unique, where our play group begins with all of our school on assembly. The playgroup finishes with sharing the first break with our students. From my perspective it is delightful having all of the age groups mixing together. A true multiage perspective. I don’t know of many schools which would be able to accommodate the structure nor flexibility. Our 2024 Prep class get together for have been very successful. I would like to thank the current Prep parents and Ms. Z for their creating such a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
Canberra Trip 2024
Planning is underway for 2024. I would ask the parents in grades 4, 5 and 6, for 2024, if you have not submitted you expression of interest for the Canberra trip please do so before November 20th.
Swimming Change Of Date
Our last swimming date will change. We will not swim on Monday 20th as the pool has a swimming carninval. Our last swimming date will be Monday Nov 27th . On Monday November 20th we will have a transition day which means the current year 3 will move to year 4. The current year 1 will move to year 2. This is a day in which the students will have ideas of how we operate in different classes. The students will revert back to normal at the end of the day.
Fire Sign at the Griffith Entrance
You may have noticed the fire sign at the entrance to the Mount Gravatt Campus. This is also replicated at Nathan. While we have had rain, it is a timely reminder that we are entering the peak of the bushfire season. As a school we have practiced our evacuation processes. Griffith has indicated that if the weather is deemed catastrophic they will close both Nathan and Mount Gravatt campus. If this was to occur we would move to online learning. Griffith has indicated that where possible they would give us at least two days notice if this event was to occur.

Puggles NewsDesk
Hello Puggle Families,
I just wanted to start by saying a massive thank you to all our wonderful families for their support and kindness over the past fortnight. It has been an incredibly exciting and busy couple of weeks and we couldn't be more proud of our little people and how far they have pushed themselves out of their comfort zones. It has been an absolute joy watching the Puggles perform in the musical and scary dance but also meeting our new Prep families and showing them all the wonderful things about Yarranlea. We couldn't have done any of these activities without such supportive and understanding families. Thank you so much, we are so lucky to have you all!
Prep Orientation Days
This fortnight our Puggles have participated in Prep Orientation Day with our new Preppies for 2024. It was so lovely to have new little people in our classroom. The Puggles enjoyed a fun morning where we focused on building friendships for next year.
Book Week
Our Puggles loved joining in on book week last week, it was a lovely way to dress up and share stories.
Prep Meet and Greet
Thank you to all our families who joined us for our Prep Meet and Greet last weekend. The children had a ball, playing together, flying kites, and getting to know each other.
Our last Prep event will be on Saturday 18 November 2023 at Oxley Creek Common, Rocklea, from 9:30 am- 11:30 am. This is a wonderful chance for our Puggles to get to know the new Preppies coming in and help with the transition to 2024. If you are available to come and play with us we would be very grateful to see you. Please bring a NUT-FREE snack to share.
Scary Dance
We had the best time at Scary Dance! Thank you so much for all the effort that everyone went to make the night so magical! If anyone has a video of the whole Puggle performance Stef and I would love it if you could send it to us so we can show the children!
Musical
What a wonderful night our Puggles had at the musical! We could not be prouder of each and everyone one of them for putting so much effort into their performance and for showing so much respect to the older children while they carried out their lines. Well done Puggles!
Playgroup
Our Puggles have loved looking after their little friends at playgroup! Week 7 will be our last week of playgroup. Thank you to all our families who came along, we can't wait to start back next year!
Science
The Year One students have been learning about light and how it travels. We have been exploring and observing shadows inside and outside the classroom.
Maths
The Prep students have been enjoying creating addition and subtration stories within ten. They have been working together to use words and symbols to create equations.
Tech
This term the Puggles have been learning how to code using their Ozobot "Ozzie". They created a creative track for him to follow and then were given a track to create codes for him to follow. The students have enjoyed working together and in teams to create these tracks.
Kookaburras NewsDesk
Greetings Kookaburra Families,
This year is truly flying by! I am still coming to terms with the fact I only have 5 beautiful weeks left with your amazing children in the 2023 Kookaburra Classroom. This truly has been such a heartfelt year. All of the students have come so far, socially, emotionally and academically. You all should be super proud of them and their efforts day in and day out!
Book Week:
Last week we enjoyed our Book Week celebrations, the children were nothing but smiles in their chosen dress ups!
Scary Dance:
It seems like Week 5 was the week for "no uniforms"… Despite the rain, we all enjoyed our annual school Scary Dance. I really must commend the children on their dance efforts. When I say we spent WEEKS… we spent WEEKS… collaboratively choreographing the dance steps, and practicing almost every afternoon. The children were exhausted after our practices, but it all paid off for their performance and I could not be more proud! As the boys still like to chant back at me… *MORE PASSION, MORE ENERGY, MORE FOOTWORK*
Toy Update:
I am hoping the children can start bringing in their home made toys in Week 8 (starting the 20th November). During the afternoons of Week 8, the children will be able to Show and Share their toys, have a play with each other's constructed toys as well as ask questions to their peers.
I will be sure to remind the children to bring in their toys closer to this date too.
Book Reads:
Our Morning Tea Storybook Reads are going strong! Can I just say a BIG thank you to each of you who have taken the time out of your day to come in. The children absolutely love the experience, and they speak about your chosen books well after you have left! Should you or a Grandparent like to come in and perform a storybook read, please reach out and email me with some dates that work for you and I will slot you in. Morning Tea is at 10:15-10:30 am, and parents have usually gotten through 2 storybooks with questions from the students in this time frame.
CANVA CREATIVITY
This term, the Kookaburra's have been working with the Dingoes in multi-age groups to make Bushfire posters using CANVA. We do this every Thursday afternoon. The Dingoes students are well equipped in their CANVA skills and have taken it in their stride to teach their younger peers how to use this platform. With the ever present threat of Bushfires in our state of Queensland, as teachers, Miss D and I decided that research, education and the construction of posters would help with the children's understanding of this natural disaster, as opposed to them potentially feeling nervous or having fear around it. The children have worked so well over the past few weeks that some groups are actually already finished! So to continue we have extended the children to begin making Christmas cards for their friends and family. I am hoping, if the Kookaburra students enjoy CANVA enough, we can implement the platform into our normal classroom learning next year.
Christmas Craft Volunteers:
CALLING ALL CRAFTY PARENTS!! I am extending an invitation for any parents who would like to come in and run a Christmas Craft activity of your choice. If you have any ideas in mind, please reach out and we can arrange a time. I can also then see if we have the appropriate materials here at school for you to conduct your activity. I am mainly making this call out, because I know some of you may have particularly crafty skills you would like to share with the children. As the learning for the term winds down, this is a great end of year activity for the students to be exposed to new skills they could continue to use over their schooling journey.
ABSENCES
As the year winds down, I understand some of you have booked family holidays during the school term. If you could please email me through the dates in advance, that your child will be absent from school, this would be greatly appreciated. It really helps me logistically in planning and implementing the classroom activities over the coming weeks.
Dingoes NewsDesk
Hello everyone,
I just want to say a big thank you for all of your efforts over the past few weeks! We have had a huge fortnight, with Scary Dance, the Musical, Book Week and our Year 6 Dinner. The students have all done so well and this could not of happened without the support of all our wonderful parents.
Book Week Fun
It was wonderful to see all of the amazing costumes our students were decked out in for Book Week! Our day started with a special parade that was also attended by our new 2024 Prep students so it was a great way to get everyone involved.
Frozen Musical
After months and months of hard work, our Frozen Musical premiered last week and it was a huge success! A huge thank you to Mrs Hooper who has put in so much effort to ensure our students receive the best music and arts program possible.
