Puggles NewsDesk
Hello wonderful Puggle Families,
What a busy week it has been!
Playgroup
Our Puggles have loved having their little siblings at playgroup this term! It has been wonderful having our community working together.
If any families have any feedback they would like to give about playgroup, please fill in the survey below:
Maths
In Maths this fortnight our Preppies and Year Ones have been learning skip counting and place value. The Preps enjoyed learning to count on by jumping on a number line, while our Year Ones enjoyed making numbers using tens and ones in a game of elimination.
Prep 2024 Meet and Greet
We would like to invite all of our Puggle Families to our Prep meet and greet on Saturday 28th October 2023 and Saturday 18 November 2023 at Oxley Creek Common, Rocklea, from 9:30 am- 11:30 am. This is a wonderful chance for our Puggles to get to know the new Preppies coming in and help with the transition to 2024. If you are available to come and play with us for one or both of the days we would be very grateful to see you. Please bring a NUT FREE snack to share.
Drama
Our Puggles have been learning about process drama this term. They used freeze frames to portray animals, people, and movements. We then combined this with our learning of narratives where the students had to recount the events in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children then had a go at creating a frozen emotion while their classmates guessed what they were portraying.
The students have also loved being part of the musical rehearsals this week. How cute do they look in their little costumes!
PHOTOS!
This term the Prep students are learning about sharing stories. If your child has any photos, videos, stories, or songs that they would like to share with the class please email them to me or send them in their reading folders. Below are some photos from when the Year Ones did this unit last year. When did they get so big!

Kookaburras NewsDesk
Hi Kookaburra families,
Swimming Carnival:
Thank you to all who helped in the operation of our first school Swimming Carnival! I think it is safe to say the children had a great day! I was very impressed at how brave each of them were to try new things, and with most of the children requesting to swim more than once! They were definitely challenging themselves to swim as far as they possibly could!
Toy Update:
I am loving hearing about all the toy making madness the children are getting up to at home! Please feel free to email me through a photo once they have finished constructing and building their toy! (I love seeing them).. I am hoping that the children can bring in their finished products in WEEK 9 for a big Show and Share afternoon of the various Push and Pull Toys they have come up with.
POETRY
This is an amazing poetry website that the kids thoroughly enjoy… click here
This term our literacy focus is POETRY! At this stage the children are just learning the basic structures of poems, and our focus is on rhyme. This past fortnight we have been focusing on the various language features; specifically nouns, verbs and adjectives, as well as onomatopoeia, alliteration and repetition.
With each literacy focus, I like to model a "colour code analysis". This aids in cementing the children's understanding of the concepts as they have to identify and colour code the features in the text. (Please see some photo examples!)
In a week's time the children will have to both respond to a poem, and produce a poem. The topic for the poem they have to write is WATER.
Show and Share
Please find below some of our recent Show and Share moments!
"The best part about our classroom is who we share it with"
MUSICAL PRACTICE:
The students have been working SO hard at their musical rehearsals. We cannot wait to show you all what we have been up to for the past 9 months! I am very proud of all the Kookaburras for just having a go and trying their best, even if they may not feel they are the most musically inclined!
Dingoes NewsDesk
Hi everyone,
We are approaching the halfway mark for the last term of 2023, scary!
We have already had a massive term, with an excursion, swimming carnival, scary dance, book week dress ups, school photos and the musical to come! We know students may start to feel the effects of a big term but we need to ensure we stay switched on so we can finish all our learning for the year.
Year 6 Dinner
Parents of our Year 6 students should have recieved an invitation to our inaugural Year 6 dinner today. We will be hosting the night on Thursday, November 9 at the school oval.
We encourage parents to come along and share an inspirational story, some words of wisdom or just a special message for our students as they embark on their journey to high school. We want the night to be a special send off for our leaders, enjoying a dinner together and chatting in a relaxed setting. Pizza and drinks will be provided on the night, we just ask that you bring along a chair or picnic rug to sit on. If you and your student are going to attend the night please RSVP via text by November 1st. This night is in addition to our formal graduation ceremony at the end of week 9.
Note - You do not have to share a story or message with the group if you do not want to! Just simply come and enjoy an evening together to celebrate an end of an era.
Book Week Fun
Yarranlea held our book week parade this Thursday on the school oval. It was wonderful to see all of the effort students had gone to with their costume (and thank you to the parents!). We also shared the morning with our new preps-to-be for 2024 and enjoyed a teddy bear picnic together.
Music and More
Dear Parents,
We have been working hard to present our Frozen Musical to you next week! The show runs for approximately 60 mins so pickup time is 7pm both nights.
The students have put together a Frozen programme especially for you. They are $2 each at the door and include a QR code for your convenience.
Thankyou so much!
Mrs Hooper
