The main objective of the EPIC survey is to identify as to what parents want as part of the curriculum. The themes suggested below arose from the survey we will look at for our future planning purposes
Internet Literacy
Community volunteering
Financial literacy
Entrepreneurship
A.I
Robotics
Collaborating with NGO’S
Environmental Education
Important Considerations for the Curriculum
Strong teacher and child relationships. Transparency when it comes to curriculum and still a strong focus on education, music, language and arts.
More socially-environmentally engaged education, less technologically dependent education, the introduction of the mindfulness curriculum - continuation in strengthening the relationships between educators, students, school and families, and investing in the emotional resilience of students.
Individual focus and engagement with students
Preparing my child for high school and the real world. Thinking critically, being helpful and kind to younger children.
I think there needs to be more focus on community and people, and less in technology.
Understanding how I can support my child to learn and develop.
Staying small and extending into High School
I think Yarranlea already does a good job of nurturing students academically, socially-emotionally and culturally. I would like to see this continue. I appreciate it when the school not only personalises my child's learning to meet his strengths and weaknesses but also understands how he best learns and develops i.e. what makes him tick socially and emotionally in terms of motivation, reward, holistic development etc.
We like the small, multi-age environment. Life skills like critical thinking and emotional intelligence are of more importance to me than ticking boxes in a curriculum. Yarranlea seems to have the right balance for all of these factors.
A Dash of Colour and Water add some Fun …. We have a Colour Fun Run
Our community was in full support last week with the annual colour fun run. Many thanks to all for their support on the day including our P and F who supplied the ice blocks etc. which helped everyone cool off.
Opti mind – the Critical Thinking and Collaborative Process
Well done to the two student teams that represented the school at the Griffith Logan Campus on Saturday, August 26th. Thank you to the parents for their support on the day. While we have not competed in a “live presentation” due to COVID restrictions each of the teams presented their solutions to their long term problems in front of the judges and to an audience on the day.

Please ensure your student has the following:
1) Morning tea
2) Lunch

Year 6 Attend Young Entrepreneur Summit
This Tuesday our Year 6 students and myself attended the Young Entrepreneur Summit (YES) at Logan. The one-day event was an interactive summit designed to inspire and empower a generation of brave, creative and entrepreneurial young leaders. Yarranlea was the only primary school to attend the event, with a number of younger children attending with their parents as well as high school students. The day was timed perfectly as our Dingo students have just delivered their own Shark Tank (or Dingo Den) pitches for a water saving device as part of our HASS program this term. We heard from a number of young entrepreneurs who all had different stories about how they came to run a successful business. Two of our students, Thomas and Jensen, even stood up on stage and delivered their own innovative pitch for a product in front of the whole audience. It was an inspiring day and I was very proud of how all of our Year 6 students represented the school. Speaking with a Year 9 economics teacher at the event, I told her about our Shark Tank pitches and our use of Canva and she was really impressed as she said those were the skills she was currently teaching to her students. I think this was a great example of how we provide opportunities to set our students up for success for high school. We hope to attend this event next year with our senior students.
Father's Day Fun
We hope all of our fathers and special people had a fantastic day last Sunday! The Dingoes had fun creating some eye-catching cards on Canva and then writing their messages.

Home Project - TERM 4
For our Technologies Design unit next term, I am setting a home based project. This project will go for 10 weeks, aiming to finish Monday of Week 10, Term 4. The project combines students' knowledge of design technologies and their science units for the term. I am tasking the children to Design and Build a Toy using different materials for effect and purpose. The overall focus for this toy will be around the concept of PUSH AND PULL. It is encouraged that this is NOT an expensive activity, and students should aim to use and recycle items and objects they have at home already. I will be talking this task through with the students in Week 1 of next term, however, I just wanted to give families a heads up! More information will follow in the coming newsletters.
Basketball:
This week is our last week of Basketball with Mr C! I think it is safe to say the kids have loved their weekly lessons. Their enthusiasm and ability to try something new, as well as their team work skills have really shone through. Last week we even had our first try at a PROPER game! The children loved learning how to defend and put their shooting, passing and dribbling skills to use.
Book Reads:
Thank you so much to our class parents for their ongoing support with our Storybook Read Initiative! The children love having you in (more than you probably realise).. Once a parent is in for Morning Tea they talk about the books read for the rest of the school day!!
We are continuing our class storybook reads at Morning Tea time for the remainder of this year. Should you or a Grandparent like to come in and perform a storybook read, please reach out and email me with some dates that work for you and I will slot you in. Morning Tea is at 10:15-10:30 am, and parents have usually gotten through 2 storybooks with questions from the students in this time frame.
Colour Fun Run:
I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to any and all parents and carers who assisted us in the organising and operation of our School Colour Fun Run! The children all commented on how much fun they had, and I am very thankful the weather held out for us! The most notable comment from one of our puggles was "That was better than my birthday party!" (very cute)…

Maths
This week in maths we have been exploring addition, subtraction, and place value. The students have been using unifix cubes and MAB blocks to understand the concept of place value. The Year One students have been exploring different subtraction strategies, while the Prep students have been learning different ways to make numbers.
Science
In science this fortnight, the Year One students observed the landscape and sky around the school. The students recorded what these places looked like and compared them to the observations they had made the previous week. We then discussed how the landscape and sky changed and predicted why this could be the case.
Colour Fun Run
Thank you so much to all the family helpers that were there on the day. It was so special sharing such a lovely day with our Yarranlea community.
Prep 2024 Meet and Greet
We would like to invite all of our Puggle Families to our Prep meet and greet on Saturday 28th October 2023 and Saturday 18 November 2023 at Oxley Common, Rocklea, from 9:30 am- 11:30 am. This is a wonderful chance for our Puggles to get to know the new Preppies coming in and help with the transition to 2024. If you are available to come and play with us for one or both of the days we would be very grateful to see you.
Parent Readers
Over the last fortnight we have had some wonderful parent helpers come in to read a story to our Puggles. This has been a wonderful new addition to our routine and the Puggles couldn't be prouder of their grown-ups. Thank you so much to our parents who have already come in. If any parent would like to read a story in class, please let me know your availability.
Father's Day
We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating the special people in their life!

Ten Pin Bowling
As we are coming to the close of Term 3 all of the junior league players are trying extremely hard to learn the different ways to be safe on the lane, as well as in and around center. Stopping to give right away on the lanes, as well as being safe and waiting for Zone bowling staff to bring back any bowing balls that may be sitting in the gutter on the lane, and receive an all clear, or waiting for the ball clearing gaurd rail to lif before bowling again. The newer juniors are really trying hard to complete there game, to knock pins down, most of them bowling instead of using a ramp as they grow stronger with their arms.
Each week we have games being bowled over average with Kou (33 over) and Matilida (29 over) bowling over 100. We also have several other children, Clara , William and Drew, all bowling over their weekly average.
I also brought in some of my trophies and wall placques to show the juniors for show and tell.
Remember over the holidays if you have some time and wish to share an activity with your child/ren to have a game of Ten Pin Bowling. Inform your Zone Bowling Centre that you are a league member Pricing is lower for league players........ having the children practice on their skills is a benifit to them.
Enjoy the holiday break and keep the pins falling ... coach graeme..🎳🎳
