This week in HASS Max and Sol did a show and share where they shared memories of their past. We also visited the yarning circle to learn how songs help us to share memories and information.

Maths
In Maths this week the Year Ones have been learning about time and calendars. They enjoyed playing learning time by playing What's the Time Mr Wolf and a matching time game. The Preps have been learning about 3D shapes and composing and modelling of shapes. They have loved creating pictures and stories using the shapes.
Prep Picnics
Thank you so much to all the families who joined us for the Prep Picnic on the weekend. It was such a wonderful morning getting to know everyone for the Puggles 2025 classroom. We have one last picnic on Saturday 23rd November 2024 at Oxley Creek Common, Rocklea, from 9:30am- 11:30am. This is a wonderful chance for the current Puggle families to get to know the new families for 2025!
Musical
We couldn't be prouder of the Yarranlea children for such a wonderful musical performance! I was so wonderful watching our Puggles grow to be some comfortable and confident on stage. A big thank you to Mrs Hooper for creating such an incredible event!

Kookaburras NewsDesk
Greetings Kookaburra Families!
Welcome to Week 7!
**If anyone receives catalogues in their junk mail, once finished with them, if you wouldn't mind donating them to the class for our Christmas themed activities in a few weeks' time, that would be AMAZING! Thank you :)
Musical: The Lion King musical has come to a close, and we couldn’t be prouder of the students who rehearsed and performed their hearts out! Despite some last-minute logistical challenges, we hope you enjoyed the show. A huge thank you to our incredible music teacher, Mrs. Hooper, whose dedication and hard work made this production possible!
Health: In our recent health lessons, the students have been learning how to identify and manage different feelings, with a focus last week on understanding and coping with anxieties. It was emphasized that these are normal, healthy emotions everyone experiences throughout life, and the Kookaburras showed remarkable bravery and openness in sharing their anxieties with the class.
HASS: Last week in our HASS lesson, students explored the importance of preserving historical sites of cultural or spiritual significance in the Brisbane area. Working in groups, they researched the history and significance of their assigned sites and discussed why these places should be protected and what might happen if they were removed. To summarize their findings, the students created posters to encourage people to care for these sites and appreciate their rich history. Please see below to see their wonderful creations!
Poetry: As our poetry unit wraps up, students have worked hard to create their own poems and identify key poetic features. They’ve learned the importance of beat and rhythm, and how rhyme can enhance these elements for poetic effect. Additionally, students explored how techniques like alliteration, onomatopoeia, and repetition can add symbolism and depth to their writing. Our new focus now becomes Narratives, as we move into the festive season and NAPLAN early next year.
Science: Our Year 3 students are currently learning about the observable properties of soils, rocks, and minerals, and investigating why these are valuable Earth resources. Last week, they explored the school grounds, collecting various types of rocks and observing their unique characteristics, such as texture, color, grain, and crystal size. This hands-on activity helped students understand the similarities and differences among rocks and appreciate their role in our environment.
Happy Snaps :) Please see below some HAPPY snaps from the past fortnight…
Dingoes NewsDesk
Hi everyone,
Welcome to Week 7! It's a big week for the Dingoes class as most of us are jetting off to Canberra. We are all very excited for the trip and can't wait to come back and tell everyone about our big adventure.
Playgroup Fun
As it was the last playgroup for the Term, the Dingoes were able to join in on the fun and help the younger student and themselves to make grass heads. It was a great chance for our leaders to interact with our playgroup children.
Lion King Musical Success
A huge thank you to everyone who turned out to watch our musical last Friday night. I am beyond proud of all of our students and am still blown away by their bravery to get up on stage and sing and perform. And a special thank you to Mrs Hooper who always goes above and beyond to make sure our musical is a roaring success.
Year 6 Dinner and Photo Request
We are once again hosting a special dinner for our Year 6 students and their families! This will occur on Thursday November 28 at the school in the Dingoes classroom. We will be sending out a formal invitation in the coming weeks with a link for students and their families to provide dietary requirements and requests. We can't wait to spend a night together to celebrate our wonderful Year 6 students and wish them the best as they make their next step in their education journey.
We are also putting out a call for photos from throughout our Year 6 student's primary school experience for our end of year photo presentation. Could you please send any photos (the cuter, the better!) to s.dionysius@yarranlea.qld.edu.au.
